Historic threat
Historic acceptance
The use of explosives or guns by terrorist groups across the world have been a threat to communities and government for centuries. Most people are thought to be fully aware of potential hazards from explosion and ballistic projectile and this knowledge is invariably gained from TV, press and films. But a first question should be, does the knowledge fit the hazard and risk?
Experience
Historically, many senior executives and indeed authorities had personal experience of ballistic threats from military experience and training. Many have lived through the days of the IRA and Uni bomber and even seen assassination of presidents or pop stars but has the real hazard and damage been masked by the censor or authorities who invariably remove real hazards and aftermath before allowing entry? Have those potentially at risk from ballistic threat developed adequate and accurate perception of the real threat and acknowledged the need for realistic defensive planning?
